There was a little girl from Kansas that once said, "There's no place like home." This isn't Kansas, Toto, but the men's lacrosse team would agree with Dorothy.
After playing the last four games on the road, the Lions are glad to meet perennial power Towson at 2 p.m. tomorrow on the Holuba Hall turf.
"It's going to be fun to be in front of the home crowd," Captain Jay Graham said.
The No. 22 Lions will be matching up against No. 10 Towson in their first home game of the season. Not only is the team looking for a win after two losses on the road over spring break, but it is also seeking something a little more.
"We need this (win) to gain some respect back," Graham said.
Beating Towson can definitely do that for the Lions. Towson is consistenly an NCAA Tournament team and they have seven returning starters from last year.
"They are very aggressive, cocky and swaggering when they come on the field," Coach Glenn Thiel said. "They are good lacrosse players."
Playing Towson presents two difficulties in tomorrow's game: size and speed. Although one of Penn State's strengths is in faceoff, the bigger size of Towson will challenge the Lions.
"They are 230 pounds and our kids are 140 pounds soaking wet," Thiel said of the weight difference.
Even with the increased weight, Towson has a lot of speed. Their fast break ability will most likely allow them more shots on goal. Although speed is not a strong point in Penn State's game, they realize there are ways to compensate.
"We have to neutralize their running game and control the ball," Graham said.
Although the team has two marks in the loss column, they also racked up a win against Villanova. That victory has also given the team the confidence it needs to play tough tomorrow.
"We're on the right page now," Graham said. "We've got a win under our belt."
