Still trying to figure out which team will emerge from the 64 teams that comprise this year's NCAA Tournament? Confused by Dick Vitale's 18 Final Four picks?
Well, meet a different group of experts.
Not Billy Packer, Digger Phelps or Vitale, but guys who actually went head-to-head with teams in the NCAA Tournament.
The men's basketball team played eight of the 64 tournament teams -- seven from the Big Ten. But if you're expecting members of the team to pick Big Ten brethren Purdue or Michigan to win the tournament, think again. Of the six players and one coach polled, North Carolina got fives votes to repeat as national champions. There was one abstention.
"If I had to pick one team, it would be North Carolina because of their depth and inside game," Coach Bruce Parkhill said.
"I don't want to say Carolina, but it's tough not to pick them," said freshman point guard Dan Earl.
Citing a wide-open field, junior point guard Donovan Williams declined to pick a winner.
"Either North Carolina or Arkansas," said Williams when asked who he thought would win the tournament.
Junior swingman Greg Bartram, the one dissenting voice, likes the Razorbacks to win it all.
"I'm going to pick Arkansas to win it all because of their defense," Bartram said. "They have one of the best backcourts in the country."
The sentimental favorite appears to be Ivy League champion Penn. Earl said he'll be pulling for Penn because he has a friend who plays for the Quakers, while Lion center John Amaechi will be rooting for Penn because of Quaker shooting guard Matt Maloney, who was a teammate of his at Vanderbilt.
"I would like to see Penn win because of Matt," Amaechi said. "I would really like to see Duke win it all because they're a hard-working team."
But after perusing the brackets, Amaechi can't ignore that Duke is on a collision course with North Carolina in the Final Four.
"It would be tough to bet against North Carolina," Amaechi said. "They have good discipline and great depth."
