Student charged after failing to pay tickets: A University student was transported to District Justice Clifford Yorks' office yesterday morning after she had failed to pay $1,569.50 in outstanding parking fines, University Police Services said.
Stephanie Smith of 103 Bigler Hall did not pay 24 tickets issued by the Department of University Safety for parking violations, police said.
Smith was arraigned before Yorks and transported to Centre County Prison, where she then agreed to pay the outstanding fines, police said.
Accidental Damage: Joshua Brighton of 646 E. College Ave. reported his pickup truck was damaged during snow removal operations between March 3 and Sunday night while it was in Parking Lot 44S, University police said.
The front driver-side fender and driver-side door were both dented, police said.
The damage to the truck is $500.
Burglaries: The State College Police Department said it is investigating five burglaries that occurred Monday night in the same area.
Conpharma Home Healthcare Inc., 253 Benner Pike; Long John Silvers, 2605 E. College Ave.; Valvoline Instant Oil Change, 263 Benner Pike; Cellular One, 2601 E. College Ave.; and Pizza Hut, 2609 E. College Ave. were burglarized, State College police said.
Police said an undetermined amount of money was taken from Conpharma Home Health Care and Valvoline Instant Oil Change. Nothing was taken from the other businesses, police said.
Police said the incidents may be related.
