A different struggle for survival is happening at the University's Hershey Medical Center as employees fight to keep their jobs while the center slices $22 million from its budget.

"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." -- Green Bay Packer Coach Vince Lombardi, circa 1965.

It's the most dramatic moment in softball -- maybe in all of sports. Dana Burns probably dreamed about it growing up on the playgrounds of Phillipsburg. And in the South Florida Classic this weekend, it became reality.

The envelopes please (awards from yours truly) . . .

Player-of-the-Year -- Where do you start when talking about Purdue superstar Glenn Robinson, who led the country in scoring with a whopping 30.5 point per game average? Down the stretch, Robinson elevated his already-unstoppable game to another level. The "Big Dog" scored 37 points in a crucial win at Michigan and then put an exclamation point on his scintillating season Sunday with a career-high 49 points in Purdue's title-clinching win over Illinois.

Representatives of the Black Coaches Association and the NCAA will meet today in Chicago to discuss the issues that led to the BCA's threatened boycott of the collegiate basketball season in January. The Community Relations Service of the U.S. Department of Justice will mediate the talks.

Entrance into the Big Ten brought with it quite a challenge for each of Penn State's athletic teams. Besides battling the competition, Nittany and Lady Lions alike found themselves fighting for respect.
