An unidentified man was killed yesterday morning in an accident on state Route 322 east of Boalsburg. The man's name was not released pending notification of his family.
Rockview State Police said the man's car was heading west on Route 322 and veered into the eastbound lane for an unknown reason. The vehicle crashed head-on into another car driven by Robert W. Pierce, 32, of Saint Benedict, police said.
After the collision, the man's vehicle burst into flames and was pushed about 700 feet, police said. Centre County Coroner Kerry Benninghoff pronounced the man dead at the scene of the accident.
Pierce, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the accident, police said.
The Boalsburg and Centre Hall Fire Departments, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Resources also assisted at the scene.
