Pothole season is quickly approaching, and to combat the roadway breakup, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will be reinstating its toll-free hotline for the public to report potholes they encounter on state highways.

Many video renters recognize back-room hallways as the place that shields them from the embarrassment of renting an adult movie -- but to video rental stores, that long hallway is usually there to keep kids out.

Renting movies is a popular option for students short on finances. But when people like Beth Reitmeyer go into a store and are faced with a membership fee, it's time to find a different place to rent.

The Bellefonte man whose mobile home porch roof collapsed on him because of heavy snowfall died March 4 at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital in Johnstown.

In an effort to advance her legislative efforts, state Rep. Ruth Rudy withdrew her name for the nomination for lieutenant governor last week.

The Ferguson Township Police Department is investigating a Friday night carjacking incident on College Avenue.

Rather than follow the vast majority of University students, some traveling hundreds of miles to exotic Florida or tropical Cancun, Kamyar Beihagi opted to spend his spring break in the dreary land of State College --working.

Thousands of students piled into Happy Valley this weekend with sand, surf and good times still fresh on their minds. Others left behind a week of couch-ensconced vegetation and groping for remote controls amid the darkness of parents' family rooms.

Lion diver Chris Devine proved he could consistently deliver this weekend by capturing both the 1- and 3-meter boards at the East Region NCAA Diving Prequalification meet in Annapolis, Md.

Andy Achenbach and Rodney Dangerfield had something in common -- neither got respect, until now.

After two exhilarating come-from-behind victories, the Icers ran out of comebacks. As a result, the dream of a national championship evaporated.

The men's indoor track team hoped to use the Middle Tennessee Invitational as a spring board into the NCAA Championships. It was a game with a little bit of everything -- ups, downs, streaks, lulls -- all of it. Kind of like the Nittany Lion season.

Rene Portland had to chuckle. Jackie Donovan pretty much ignored it. And Helen Holloway just shook her head, as if to say, "Why can't you leave it alone?"

It isn't often a freshman athlete makes such an indelible mark so soon. Meet Michelle Dejuliis. In her first game on the women's lacrosse team, the freshman attacker scored six goals including the overtime game-winner.

Gymnast Tom Ellefson isn't complaining. On paper, the Lions captured three more victories. But in spirit, the gymnasts know they are capable of performing better.

After two incomplete performances, the men's lacrosse team put it all together. Penn State (1-2) notched its first win of the year Saturday, defeating Villanova 16-12 in Philadelphia.

ARTS

The recently vacuumed room, 319 Jordan, resembles most dorms. The walls are covered with posters of the residents' favorite activities and memoirs from home. Only one small suggestive picture of a blonde woman in short shorts getting on a bicycle can be found.
