Offensive cartoon

As a Jew, and an individual who has experienced the Holocaust as close to a first-hand basis as one currently can, once again I feel deeply offended by something which The Daily Collegian published. The cartoon that appeared on Page 8 of the Feb. 24 Collegian, clearly shows that those involved with the publication of this paper are ignorant and uneducated about the Holocaust.

At the camp of Aushwitz, there were not "disinfecting chambers." These chambers and the crematorium were found at Birkeneau which was really close to Auschwitz. Auschwitz was a work camp, and Birkeneau was a death camp.

Furthermore, these at Birkeneau were destroyed by the Germans to try to destroy evidence of the atrocities that occurred. The "disinfecting chambers" were just gas chambers. The bodies were moved to other places to be cremated. For this reason, having a smokestack coming out of the gas chamber is totally wrong.

The Collegian has once again showed its total ignorance on the topic of the Holocaust, and it has once again offended some people with ties to the Holocaust. I will tell the ignorant people at the Collegian that there is a trip called March of the Living which is a journey to the camps in Poland and the historical sites in Israel.

I challenge the Collegian to find out more about this trip and report it to the public. Maybe then, the Collegian will honestly tell what happened during the Holocaust, and maybe this time, they will get the facts straight.
