I am writing in response to Ajay Nairs article Wednesday criticizing the Young Americans for Freedom for passing out flyers that said "Affirmative Action is Racist." He commented that because minorities have been subjected to discrimination for hundreds of years they should get something back, as in the form of affirmative action. Gee, does this sound new to anybody?

Mr. Nair also pointed out that assistance is needed for all minorities especially at a prevailing white institution as Penn State. Well, let us put this into perspective. I am a white female here on campus. Suppose I decide to transfer to a predominatly black college, such as Howard. Because I'd be a "minority" there does this mean I would be eligible for speical privileges? I certainly doubt it. Well, Ajay, affirmative action itself is discriminatory to whites.

Mr. Nair also goes on to call PS-YAF ignorant in their pursuits. You, Ajay, are the ignorant one. If you would have taken the time to read the rest of the flyer you would see that PS-YAF believes strongly in individuals regardless of color. Clubs like your Asian American Coalition only further segregate students. You are pushing for equality but in the separateness of your club you are actually driving equalization away.

To end, let me include one of Ajay's paragraphs I feel is significant: "If we fail to assist groups that have been subject to racism and discrimination for hundreds of years then how can we ever expect an equality between the races?"

Ajay Nair completely contradicts himself in this one paragraph. I suggest to him that he look up the word equality in the dictionary. Equality does not mean giving certain groups mroe privileges over another. That is what he is calling for.

Affirmative action is racist.
