Election information packets became available yesterday for those interested in running for student government positions in the newly formed Penn State Student Association (PSA), which will replace the Undergraduate Student Government. So far two packets for PSA president have been picked up.
PSA will be the result of the current student government restructuring efforts. The positions the students will be running for are still in the process of being created.
Undergraduate Student Government Senate President Mike King and USG Academic Assembly President Erich May both picked up packets. This does not officially mean they will be running for the positions.
Lori Pennay is listed as King's vice presidential running mate. Pennay is a junior and works with the USG Student Lobbying Network.
April Campbell (junior-Spanish) is listed as May's running mate.
The next steps in becoming a presidential candidate include submitting a platform statement and obtaining 400 signatures on a petition. Only full-time University Park undergraduates can sign the petitions in support of a potential candidate.
Two current USG town senators, Chris Tobin and Lyn Spera, picked up information to run for PSA senator yesterday. Both will be required to gather 75 signatures from residents of the areas they want to represent.
Campaigning cannot officially begin until March 14 when the candidate's names are announced.
