Local police contend student marijuana use is significantly higher than the annually low number of marijuana-related arrests made by the State College Police Department and University Police Services.

The Undergraduate Student Government and the administration have worked together to come up with a program that will allocate portions of the tuition increase to students needing financial aid.

The University will probably receive more money from the state this year, but some of the extra change may come at the expense of out-of-state students' pockets.

Professor Jerome Williams briefed the Organization for Town Independent Students last night on his case headed for small claims court on March 14 against The Apartment Store.

The new banners along downtown streets declare State College as "The place to be." But they're not just for decoration -- they are part of a strategic plan by Downtown State College Inc. to bring shoppers to town.

Copies of the Penn State Student Association's preliminary constitution are being distributed this week to the Undergraduate Student Government Academic Assembly, the USG Senate and the Association of Residence Hall Students.

SPORTS

Rahsaan Carlton held the game in his hands -- twice. Two good looks at the basket from three-point land, two good chances to tie the game and force an overtime.

It took a year longer than expected. After a disappointing second-place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle at Big Ten Championships last season, Regan Stacey would not be denied this time.

The wrestling team had -- and there's never been a truer use of the phrase -- its back against the wall. With two matches remaining, they were down 17-13 to the No. 1 team in the country Sunday. Senior Troy Minnich had to win to keep the Lions' upset hopes alive. And on paper, the chances of Minnich (2-8) downing Darren Andy (19-10) of Minnesota were dim at best.

It was only fitting that the Icers' 4-3 win on Saturday ended with Penn State killing a penalty. In a weekend series with Buffalo State that Coach Joe Battista called a "dress rehearsal for nationals," special teams were the key to Penn State's success.

With senior forward and co-captain Helen Holloway shoved rudely out of the lineup by an injury last week, the Lady Lions were looking for a filler. Somebody, anybody to "step up" and pick up the slack left by the team's second-leading scorer and rebounder. Who would be the one to take the step?

The lights went down and excited chatter spread thoughout Eisenhower Auditorium last night as the crowd anxiously awaited After 7, followed by Regina Belle, to take the stage.

Marvin's Room is a sweet comedy about how people deal with illness and tragedy. It seems like a depressing topic for a play, but it works.

Topics ranging from the exploitation of the black penis to interpretation of the quote "By any means necessary" abounded yesterday afternoon during the Fourth Annual Malcolm X Symposium.

If life was a joke, the punchline would have to be death.

We're born, live for several decades, fail in love, work hard to keep things stable . . . and then we die.

College students have enough trouble trying to figure out who they are, let alone who they were in their former lives.

The one constant in life since people have walked the earth is death. But it was a mere five years ago in, issue eight of DC Comics' "The Sandman," that the character of Death lived.
