Copies of the Penn State Student Association's preliminary constitution are being distributed this week to the Undergraduate Student Government Academic Assembly, the USG Senate and the Association of Residence Hall Students.
The constitution will be discussed by the Senate at its meeting tonight, and ARHS will review it this week as well.
Some items of the plan that must be completed are the duties of the Campus Assembly and the committee structures of the Town Assembly and the Congress.
Each group will have the opportunity to make revisions throughout the week, said USG President Chris Saunders. It is almost finished and could be passed by the organizations within a week, he added.
Saunders said the upcoming student government elections will go on as scheduled. It is the candidates' responsibility to know what is going on with their positions and to realize the positions they are running for are just now being created. The constitution is the USG office for candidates to copy, he added.
Student government restructuring efforts began in January when some former members of the Executive Student Action Council tried to dissolve the organization and then resigned from it.
Student leaders said they want the new government to be called "PSA" becuase they favor a three-letter abbreviation.
