Police Log

  • Man shot Saturday by police officer: A Ferguson Township Police officer shot a man Saturday night after the man allegedly threatened to kill himself and others in Mellott's Trailer Park, 1857 N. Atherton St., Rockview State Police said.

    Charles Vaughn Sorrels was shot in the chest after allegedly threatening an officer with a gun.

    Officers from the Ferguson and Patton township police departments responded to a call from the trailer park, and were assisted by officers from the State College Police Department and University Police Services.

    Sorrels is listed in serious condition at Centre Community Hospital.

    The incident is still under investigation.

  • Accidental Damage: Ronak Chokshi of 316 Sproul reported a University mail truck backed over his bicycle Friday afternoon outside Sproul Hall, University police said.

    The amount of damage is unknown.

  • Disorderly Conduct: David Miller of King of Prussia was cited for disorderly conduct Saturday night after allegedly shouting obscenities and refusing to be quiet at Centre Community Hospital, State College police said. Miller refused treatment and was removed from the hospital by an officer, police said.

    Miller was taken to the hospital after being assaulted by more than one person earlier that evening, police said.

  • Theft: University employee David Gold reported a microscope was stolen between Nov. 3 and Jan. 3 from 324 Deike, University police said.

    The microscope is worth $3,500.

  • Theft: University police said two sofas were stolen between Thursday afternoon and Friday from 6 Stone.

    The sofas are worth about $1,400.

  • Theft: Travis Sunday of 228 S. Garner St. reported tires and wheels were stolen between Feb. 13 and Thursday from his vehicle while it was parked in Parking Lot 83N, University police said.

    The tires and wheels are worth $1,000.

  • Theft: Samuel Yale of 123 N. Barnard St. reported Friday that his Univega bike was stolen from his residence, State College police said.

    The bike is worth $700.

  • Theft: Edward Eberman of State College reported his car stereo system and eight compact discs were stolen Thursday night while the vehicle was parked at the Fraser Street Parking Garage, State College police said.

    The Sony stereo and the CDs are worth $446.

  • Theft: Kerry Kasper of 411 Hoyt reported two airline tickets were stolen Saturday night from her mailbox in Redifer Commons, University police said.

    The tickets are worth $200.
