Offensive signs

Here we go again. Another "artist" whining about censorship when the issuse is really about the freedom to exercise good judgment.

I am referring to the article Monday about Caeser Pink's fliers being removed from the HUB.

I saw the fliers and found them to be vulgar, offensive and degrading. But my opinion of the fliers is not as important as the irresponsibility and disrespect of the person who distributed them.

Mr. Pink would have you believe they were artistic photographs innocently hung on a few public bulletin boards. When in fact, they were leaflets dropped in large quantities throughout the HUB, as well as the public lobby area and cafeteria in Kern Building.

This was done without benefit of permission from the management which is a customary courtesy.

This was done without respect for the fact that it was close to a very busy lunch hour and young children sometimes accompany their faculty or graduate student parents to lunch in the public cageteria.

This was done with complete diregard for state laws prohibiting displays of pornographic materials in public.

The authorities who decided to remove the offensive fliers were right and I applaud them for their decision and courage to take action.

If Caesar Pink thinks that is censorship, they need to look up the word in the dictionary. He also need to check the U.S. Constitution to discover that in a free country we all have the right to exercise good judgment.

Like it or not, some things are just not appropriate in public places. Caesar Pink's fliers were not.

I think most of us are getting tired of hearing allegations fo censorship form self-serving artists who expect us all to love their garbage, and then whine when they discover we don't.
