Nothing new
"And the muttering became a grumbling, and the grumbling grew to a mighty rumbling and out of the houses they came a tumbling . . ." -- Robert Browning. I was beside myself with excitement after reading the column Wednesday. It is so refreshing to find one so young with such an avant-garde perspective. You clearly are not one of those jejune and supercilious politically correct enthusiasts regurgitating the predigested cud for public consumption. Your ideas were not just the everyday rehashing of legitimate complaints of a suppressed minority, but portrayed invigorating insight into the insidious subjugation of womyn everywhere by the Neanderthal like, knuckle-dragging macho supermen of today's society. Your excellent use of circuitous logic in stating that those who find body hair "disgusting or undesirable" are actually finding true womynhood unappealing was reminiscent of Freud's secret ID theories, as well as bringing me back the days of simpler times where apples and fire trucks were red, so therefore all apples are fire trucks. I am also truly glad that you stayed away from being too didactic as my attention tends to wander when such delightful confabulation becomes too preachy. Thanks ever so much for opening my eyes to the knowledge today's womyn has gleaned from society and for offering such cutting insight to its' solution. By the way, Miss Be-your-natural-self who is not at all preoccupied with trying to meet society's stereotypes, what's up with the big hair and gleaming "pearly whites" in your column's juxtaposed picture? Those worthy of being heard might not depend upon being seen. Equality is not to be delegated, and if done forcibly only further tilts the scales. If those of generation X wish to build a more sensitive society, they need to stop portioning out blame and start offering pragmatic workable solutions intent on bringing our divided society together.
