ESAC meetings canceled

Collegian Staff Writer

The four Executive Student Action Council members attending last night's meeting did not get to sit down or take off their coats before being informed that they would not be meeting this week or any other week for at least the next month.

"We can't do anything when only four people are coming to the meetings," said Paul Kasper, ESAC chairman. He added that ESAC members will continue to communicate with each other through informal meetings, memos and phone calls.

Some ESAC members were surprised by Kasper's announcement.

"I don't even know what to say right now," said Mark Shiner, Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Student Alliance political co-director.

David Wilson, LGBSA political chairman, said he is in favor of ESAC's decision if it will strengthen the newly formed Communities Coalition. The Coalition may eventually replace ESAC, Wilson added.

ESAC serves as a link for students to the administration, and the Communities Coalition will serve as an advisory board to the Undergraduate Student Government, but will not be a voting member of USG. The Communities Coalition was formed about a week ago by University special interest groups such as LGBSA, Latino Caucus and Penn State University Veterans Organization.

James Dailey, Graduate Student Assocation president, said the majority of the members thought it was best to discontinue their meetings considering all the "upheaval" recently caused by USG's restructuring efforts.

Chris Saunders, Undergraduate Student Government president, said he believes ESAC should dissolve itself if it is not going to meet on a regular basis.
