Input needed

For the past several weeks, there has been much talk about the restructuring of the Undergraduate Student Government. Unfortunately, even with a better structure, there will be no improvements in student government without the support of the students. It is evident that many students have no idea what USG, Association of Residence Hall Students or Organization of Town Independent Students do or what their acronyms, USG, ARHS and OTIS stand for. Indeed, student apathy is a large problem in making student government as effective as it can be.

My intent however, is not to blame the inadequacy of USG on fellow students. My purpose is to request your help. With greater support from the student body, the new student government could be a very productive, influential organization. It would be able to deal with student problems more effectively, and it would command more respect from the administration.

If you are interested in helping or just have some ideas, comments or questions, please don't hesitate to call. Contact USG at 863-1USG, ARHS at 863-ARHS, OTIS at 865-6851, or your local government.

If you live in South Halls, feel free to E-mail me at bje105@psuvm. I am not asking for a large time commitment -- just your input. If you would like to be more involved, there are positions available with varying degrees of commitment.

The key to a successful student government is the students. Without you, we can accomplish very little. With your help and support we can do great things.

Ben Ehrhart
South Halls Residence Association executive vice president
