An open mind
Hooray for WPSU's Iris Bryan. Following my placement of the Bradley Smith Holocaust Museum ad in The Daily Collegian last week, she is the sole reader that contacted me with an inquiring mind. Her attitude that a tumultuous reaction to an event is worth checking out, stands in sad contrast to the timidity and ostrich-like reaction of the rest of the supposedly intellectual community. This is not to say that a couple other reporters didn't make a perfunctory call to see if I am anti-Semetic, deranged or have been sleeping for 50 years. Rather, Iris asked fundamental questions about the source and quality of revisionist research and its specific claims. I'm sure our conversation didn't make an instant convert of Ms. Bryan, but now she has a broader view of the issue than most people because of her open mind. Most educators subscribe to the theory of open-minded inquiry, Ms. Bryan practices it.
