Student struck while crossing Shortlidge Road

A 21-year-old Hiester Hall resident was struck by a car yesterday near White Building.

The student was crossing Shortlidge Road in the crosswalk located between Simmons and McElwain halls at about 5:30 p.m. when she was hit by a Chevrolet Caprice operated by 21-year-old Steven Q. Brown of Columbia, Mo., University Police Services said.

The victim was transported to Centre Community Hospital, where she was treated and released, according to a nursing supervisor.

Police said they will not know whether or not charges will be filed until all of the witnesses have been interviewed.
