In Matt Volpi's otherwise accurate reflections of my comments on contemporary lesbian and gay fiction found in the Tuesday's edition of The Daily Collegian, he implies I called this enormously diverse literature a "genre." To set the record straight, as it were, I never used such a word.
Those who attended Holly Hughes' recent performance would appreciate my need to clarify. Volpi did get the main point right: That any well-read person would be "out of it" (I did say that!) if he or she had never read any fiction by a contemporary lesbian, gay or bisexual writer.
