In memory
We would like to comment on something that truly upset us as Penn State ice hockey fans and also as members of the Hockey Management Association. In The Daily Collegian yesterday, the caption under the picture of several players indicated that one of them was possibly wearing the wrong helment. If the staff member who wrote this knew anything about Penn State ice hockey, he or she would also know that almost all of the team's members have a number 20 on the back of their helmets. Anyone who has gone to a game this year and looked at the roster would see we have no number 20 on our team. Anyone who has followed our team would know that they are remembering and showing their respect to a teammate who was a very important part of their team. That number 20 on the back of the helments honors the memory of Jason Robert Niedt, a teammate who died tragically last summer. We find it hard to comprehend that the same paper which had articles on Jason's death has shown such insensitivity in mocking the efforts of the Icers to remember their former teammate. Instead of pondering the Icer's equipment during the remainder of the home season, why not look down on the ice and cheer the team on, like we know Jason would want.
