Letter to the Editor
Bar tour
During the past two weeks, fliers have been distributed across campus advertising the Student Veterans "F**k The Collegian Bar Tour." Having received many inquires from students, faculty and organizations we feel it necessary to explain our grievances with The Daily Collegian to the University community. For several months, the editorial board of the Collegian has ignored the accomplishments of the Penn State University Veterans Organization (PSUVO). In many cases, actual interviews were conducted and stories written. Yet the editors apparently have decided to either delete mention of PSUVO or eliminate articles. PSUVO realizes that the Collegian has ignored not only our organization, but many others as well. Our attempt to submit these complaints to the Collegian have been met with contempt. Mike Abrams has told organizations that editors must be informed of events. We have informed you, many times. Mr. Abrams has also stated that the Collegain is comprised of students still learning their profession. PSUVO acknowledges this, however, it appears the Collegian's editors have forgotten that they themselves are still students. It is time the editors grow up and acknowledge the fact that they do misquote. They do ingnore many organizations. They do exaggerate events in order to fit their personal "angle" rather than present actual facts. PSUVO has no intention of manipulating the Collegian. Having served our country, we fully support the First Amendment. However, we would like to have the editors realize that they do make mistakes. Instead of regarding complaints as obviously misinformed at least consider and evaluate them. The overwhelming positive response we are receiving for our bar tour is an indication that PSUVO is not alone in its opinion of the Collegian. "The F**k The Collegian Bar Tour" is an opportunity for the University community to send the message to Mike Abrams that we are tired of the exhibition of irresponsible behavior by individuals who know better. Hopefully we can make the Collegian better for everyone. Also PSUVO will be taking donations during the bar tour for Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. In 1989, when our house was destroyed by fire, the Greek community gave us an incredible amount of support.
