Those who read the Collegian on Friday could not miss the half page of coverage the "ultra groovy" Greg Brady received.
While Barry Williams' visit to Penn State was certainly entertaining and newsworthy, so was a $2 million gift to the University's Library Campaign. This gift by the Eberly Foundation is crucial to the construction and renovation of Pattee. This is indeed an outstanding gift in every sense of the word. The Eberlys have given a great deal to this University and their latest library gift will benefit us -- the students -- and faculty of Penn State.
The Collegian editors, over the past several years, have expressed concern and support for the improvement of Pattee. Now, after a bold and generous gift has been given to help alleviate those concerns, the Collegian hides the article behind 30 advertisments and 5 weather related stories.
Furthermore, in an Editorial Opinion in October 1993, support for Pattee's expansion and renovation was said to "provide extra opportunity to enhance all student's education. . . " Over 40,000 students and faculty during any given year will benefit form the Eberly's generosity -- not to mention the hundreds of thousands of future Penn Staters who will benefit as well.
Robert Louis Stevenson said, "I am in no habit of looking not so much to the nature of a gift as to the spirit in which it is offered." The spirit in which Robert and Eloise Eberly offered a gift to the students of Penn State should not go unnoticed, which may have occurred due to the placement in Friday's Collegian. The Eberly's gift should be commended. So on behalf of the students of Penn State. . . Thank you!
