Representatives from several organizations met Saturday and outlined a two-tiered legislative branch as part of a restructured student government to achieve what Undergraduate Student Government President Chris Saunders calls "direct democracy."

Dancers aren't the only ones raising money for the 1994 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon. University students at three Commonwealth Campuses set out yesterday to score for the Four Diamonds Fund of the University's Hershey Medical Center.

Students University-wide will soon have an opportunity to easily communicate by computer with Commonwealth Campus area governments, the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments and the administration.

Centre County employees lacking basic computer knowledge or those just wanting to polish their computer skills will be able to attend computer training sessions next month --courtesy of the University.

A School of Communications major may be cutting and pasting its requirements for the 1994 Fall Semester, pending approval from the University.

This year when University administrators go to Harrisburg to lobby for higher education funds, they will not be alone. Four state-related and 14 state schools have joined forces to battle legislators, and they do not plan to come home empty-handed.

At an institution of higher learning such as Penn State, students can learn the principles of chemistry, the merits of fine literature and even the intricacies of wildlife and fisheries science.

The light hasn't turned green yet, but University officials are poised to continue down the information highway -- an effort that involves more than $20 million from the state, technology companies and internal reallocations.

SPORTS

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- As the 6-foot-5, 185-pounder walked slowly off the parquet floor, Iowa Men's Basketball Coach Tom Davis gave him a pat on the back -- Greg Bartram's effort would not go unnoticed.

When Coach Teri Jordan said Saturday's indoor track meet was going to be low-key, she didn't mention how low-key. Not even a handful of single runners from other schools showed up and the meet ended up more of a blue-white affair than anything.

Football star Brian Milne had little time to celebrate the big New Year's Day Citrus Bowl win before he had to get ready for the indoor track season. So, it was hard to expect him to slip into his track and field role so easily . . . but apparently he did.

With the cheers of a packed crowd resounding through the arena, Icer Rob Keegan simply pumped his fist through the air.

Penn State's Chris Devine joined the Big Ten's elite divers on Saturday when he topped last year's Big Ten Champion Yoshi Sakata of Ohio State on the 1-meter board by 1.20 points.

Penn State's senior swimmers celebrated their last collegiate meet at McCoy Natatorium Saturday by continuing a tradition they had participated in as freshmen --beating Pitt.

Women's Gymnastics Coach Steve Shephard called upon one of coaching's oldest philosophies to explain his team's third-place finish in Saturday's quad-meet.

In order to improve, it is sometimes necessary to take risks. For gymnast Jim Delaney, taking a chance on the horizontal bar paid off this weekend.

The men's volleyball team is finally on a level comparable with the powerhouses on the West Coast.

Last season the wrestling team entered the National Dual Meet Tournament with an almost-unbeatable dual-meet team. Coming away with anything less than a championship would have been a disappointment.

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Penn State Coach Bruce Parkhill didn't know what hit him -- so to speak.

Insignificant.

A midseason visit to Ann Arbor was expected to be just that for the women's basketball team. An easy victory over a young, short-handed Michigan squad. Not much of a big deal with the likes of Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Iowa looming on the horizon.

For 60 minutes, Penn State and Rhode Island played an intense, hotly contested hockey game -- but you will never hear a thing about it.
