Letter to the Editor
Liberal Arts forum

The Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council has long been a forum for student opinion and action within the College of the Liberal Arts. It is our goal to help ensure a high quality of undergraduate education.

Last year, we held a panel discussion in which we let members of the University Futures Committee know our opinion on the changes affecting the college. Every year, we prepare a spring semester course on a current issue in America.

Currently, we are organizing a student award and a faculty award based upon teaching quality. These and other projects are things we feel necessary in the University community.

Some of our members serve on standing University committees including those for undergraduate studies and Pattee. We have representation in the Faculty Senate and Academic Assembly. We are involved.

But we are lacking the membership we need to keep our representation within the college. Thus, this letter is an appeal to liberal arts students of any semester to come to our first meeting at 7 p.m. today in 230 Sackett.

We will be putting together ideas for internships and peer mentoring, as well as organizing a lecture on how to apply for government jobs.

LAUC is an opportunity to learn how the college works, make connections, and most importantly, improve the quality of undergraduate education. Getting involved is simple. We have elections coming up and will soon be assigning new committee representatives. Join us at this semester's first meeting and become a working part of the college.

Amanda Ferguson
Liberal Arts Undergraduate Council president
