Police Log

  • Father and son involved in fight: Michael Mahon of Philadelphia was arrested yesterday morning for simple assault, disorderly conduct, underage drinking and false identification, the State College Police Department said. Mahon is being held in lieu of $1,000 bail at the Centre County Prison.

    Mahon, 20, and his father, Joseph Mahon, 48, were reading magazines in the Uni-Mart, 200 E. College Ave., when the clerk asked the men to either purchase the magazine or leave, police said.

    After arguments with the clerk and customers, the father and son left the store and engaged in a fist fight on the corner of College Avenue and Pugh Street, police said. Joseph Mahon was also cited for disorderly conduct.

    Customer Kevin Gordon, 22, of Savannah, Ga., was hit on the right side of the face and taken to Centre Community Hospital, police said. Police did not have information about who struck him.

  • Student arrested, charged with theft: University student Daniel A. Barrall of Blandon was arrested Friday morning for burglary and criminal conspiracy, University Police Services said.

    Police carried out the arrest warrant, which was from the Kutztown Borough Police.

    Barrall and three other men allegedly entered an apartment on the 100 block of College Boulevard in Kutztown on Nov. 25 or 26, Kutztown police said. The men allegedly stole several items, including computers, mountain bicycles, a 20-gauge shotgun, stereo systems and about 300 compact discs, Kutztown police said.

    The items, some of which have been recovered, are worth $17,626.

    Barrall faces felony charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy, Kutztown police said.

    He is being held in Centre County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail, a prison official said.

  • Accidental Damage: Ryan Wolslayer of 603 Sproul reported several personal items were damaged while someone attempted to repair his dorm room during the semester break, University police said.

    The damaged items include a television set and stereo speakers, police said.

    The value of the damaged items is unknown.

  • Burglary: Curt Walters of 234 E. Beaver Ave. reported stereo equipment, Super Nintendo equipment, a speaker and a mountain bicycle were stolen between Dec. 17 and Jan. 8 from his room at Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, 234 E. Beaver Ave., the State College police said.

    The items are worth about $3,500.

  • Burglary: Robert Johnson of 339 Fraternity Row reported a compact disc player, compact discs and aquarium equipment were stolen during semester break from Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity, 339 Fraternity Row, State College police said.

    The items are worth about $800.

  • Burglary: Suzanne Koch of 421 Shulze reported $160 in cash was stolen Friday afternoon from her dorm room, University police said.

  • Burglary: University employee Kelly Riser reported a MacIntosh computer and accessories were stolen between Dec. 31 and Jan. 3 from Engineering Unit D, University police said.

    The items are worth $500.

  • Rules and Regulations: University Police Services confiscated an 8 mm starter pistol Jan. 3 from Pinchot Hall, University police said.

    The firearm was discovered by University housekeepers, police said.

    No charges have been filed yet. Police said they are investigating.
