Craig Fayak has had a very productive 72 hours.
On Saturday, not only did he boot three field goals, but he got to live out a dream of his playing quarterback for the Lions in the final minutes of Penn State's 43-21 drubbing of Northwestern.
And just yesterday, Fayak, along with guard Jeff Hartings and linebacker Rob Holmberg, was named to the GTE Academic All-District squad.
Also receiving honors yesterday was defensive tackle Lou Benfatti who garnered second-team All-American honors by the Football News.
To be nominated by GTE, players must start, or be a key reserve, and carry a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average.
A three-time recipient, Fayak is an English major with a 3.52 GPA. This season, the senior placekicker leads the Lions in scoring with 71 points on 12-of-21 field goal attempts and 35-of-37 on extra points.
Redshirt sophomore Hartings, who carries a 3.35 GPA, majors in business administration. A recent selection to the Academic All-Big Ten Team, he has started nine games this season.
Former wide receiver Holmberg, a redshirt junior, has started seven games and made 35 tackles.
The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Benfatti has started every game of his Penn State career. This season, he is second among Lion defenders with 56 tackles.
