A 21-year-old State College man was injured yesterday morning after being hit by a car at the State College Area High School South Building, the State College Police Department said.
Matt Campbell was walking across the high school's parking lot at 650 Westerly Parkway when he was struck by a car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old State College boy, police said.
The boy was allegedly backing through the parking lot when his car struck Campbell, police said.
Campbell was taken to Centre Community Hospital with head injuries. He was later taken by helicopter to the University's Hershey Medical Center because of the nature of his injuries, police said.
Francis Bernier, a spokeswoman at the medical center, said Campbell arrived at the hospital at about 2 p.m. yesterday. Bernier did not know Campbell's condition but said he was still in the operating room at 5:30 p.m. yesterday.
Campbell will be admitted to the medical center's critical care unit after leaving the operating room, Bernier said.
State College police are investigating the accident.
