As the final seconds of the game ticked off the clock, a goalkeeper's dream had been realized.
The dream is a shutout, and Laura Jackson, the Lady Booters' goalie, has recorded two of them in the team's first three games.
"We've been pretty dominant in our defensive zone," Coach Dirck Aumiller said. "If that continues then I think we have a very good chance to be successful."
The women's soccer team will put its undefeated record on the line at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Pollock Field against the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown, and although another shutout cannot realistically be expected, the defense is ready for the challenge.
"We worked very hard in practice this week," Jackson said. "I definitely think we're ready to go out and win the game."
The defense will have to overcome some obstacles though, as two of the team's starters are banged up. Fullback Bryn Morgan has a bruised shin that will prevent her from playing. Fullback Susan Criss is nursing a slight quadricep pull, but will be starting tomorrow.
"Not playing is frustrating," Morgan said. "There is not really any pain now, so hopefully I'll be back soon."
Aumiller is confident that his younger players will do a good job filling in, and the presence of veterans Jackson and Debbie Summers will make the freshmen feel more comfortable.
Injuries have not escaped the offense either. Forward Lisa McNally is out indefinitely with a sprained ankle. Aumiller is uncertain who will start in McNally's place, and that will be a game-time decision.
One healthy offensive player is striker Dana Pardini. Pardini is tied for the team lead in goals, and she is confident about her team's chances.
"I'm expecting a win," Pardini said. "This is our first home game and everyone is very excited about playing."
