Preparing to take their first advisory role since becoming the Executive Student Action Council, ESAC discussed topics to review with University President Joab Thomas.
Paul Kasper, ESAC chairman, asked the council at last night's meeting what issues they would like him to discuss during his meeting today with Thomas.
Kasper said he plans to discuss tile two goals ESAC has established and the progress the subcommittees have made.
ESAC has outlined two goals - minority recruitment and retention and the prioritization of teaching versus research in the University's promotion and tenure process. A third goal will be established in the future.
Assigned seating at football games was suggested as a possible side topic by Undergraduate Student Government Senate President Mike King.
Council of Commonwealth Student Governments Coordinator Ben Stevenson, who sat on the assigned seating committee, was adamant about addressing the issue. He said he felt the committee was a waste of time and assigned seating has been an inconvenience to students.
"I've had students chew me out over this," Stevenson said.
James Dailey, Graduate Student Association president, questioned whether there would be enough time in Kasper's meeting with Thomas to discuss assigned seating. The council agreed that Kasper should discuss their stated goals before other issues.
Stating that because ESAC is focused on its projects, Interfraternity Council President Bill Donato said the council could address this issue due to its importance to students.
Craig Millar, associate vice president of student affairs, said he has discussed the issue with Penn State Ticket Manager Bud Meredith and Dave Stormer, assistant vice president for University safety and environmental services, and would be willing to see if they would come and address the issue with ESAC.
