One more.
One more game is all that's left in the women's lacrosse team's regular season.
One more home appearance is all that's left for the four seniors.
One more victory before heading into the NCAA Tournament is all the Lions (11-3) desire.
At 1 p.m. tomorrow, seniors Donna Bucci, Lori Fitzgerald, Ann Kolongowski and Sue Nutter will take to Lady Lion Field for the last time in their collegiate careers.
"This has been a very emotional week," Bucci said. "In preparing for the game, I'm trying not to think about the emotional side, but for the four seniors, I think that knowing this is the last game is going to make us play with every bit of emotional intensity we have."
Nutter agreed that the emotions will help boost the level of play, particularly for the seniors.
"I guess we look at it as our last effort, so it's probably going to be our strongest," she said. "I'm sure all four of us will be very emotional with this being the last time on Lady Lion Field."
The No. 5 Lions will need all the emotion and intensity they can muster. Their final opponents of the season are the No. 2 Terrapins of Maryland, the defending national champions. The lifetime series between the teams stands at 13-12-1 in favor of the Lions.
"This is probably our biggest game of the season," Nutter said. "We're looking for a big win."
The Terps' ranking and 10-1 record suggest they are no pushovers this year, either. They have one of the top goalkeepers in the country in Mandy Stevenson, as well as several defenders who can play both ends of the field and a wealth of attackers, any of whom can consistently put points on the board.
"They're a skilled, tough, aggressive team," Coach Julie Williams said. "They play a similar style to us -- it should make for a great lacrosse game."
In order to compete with the defending champions, the Lions must avoid the intensity lapses that have plagued the team throughout the season. Also, basic skills and ball control must be present at all times.
"We have to stick to what we know," Williams said. "We've got to play our way. We've got to support each other and we've got to do it all for 60 minutes.
"We're the underdogs on paper, but paper doesn't tell it all."
Bucci added that the Lions must play "to perfection -- we can't afford stupid mistakes."
The game should hold no implications toward the NCAA Tournament as far as Penn State is concerned, Williams said. She said she fully expects the team to make the field of six, and it will almost certainly play its first-round game on the road. The Lions will know for sure on Monday when NCAA Tournament bids are released. First-round games will be played at campus sites on May 8. The Final Four will meet in College Park, Md., on May 15-16.
Notes:
-- Freshman midfielder Stephanie Flexer will miss her second straight game due to an ankle injury she suffered against Princeton. Her status for the NCAA Tournament is still unknown.
-- The senior class has contributed 92 of the Lions' 152 goals this season.
