Police find drugs, videos in searching local studio

Collegian Staff Writer

Police searched a State College photographer's studio and apartment last week for videotapes he allegedly shot of himself drugging and fondling models.

During a search for controlled substances earlier this month, State College Bureau of Police Serices officers found more than 100 videotapes labeled with womens' names, according to a search warrant. Police also found a bottle of pills known as "rugby," a drug that enhances the effect of alcohol, according to court records.

In June 1992, a University student reported that one year before, she responded to an advertisement in The Daily Collegian seeking women to model bathing suits for a calendar, District Attorney Ray Gricar said.

According to the affidavit, the 19-year-old accepted a glass of champagne while discussing a contract with the photographer in his apartment. After the shoot began, she noticed that the photographer set up a video camera and continued to fill her glass, the affidavit said. In a police interview, she said she had an intense and abnormal response to the champagne.

The woman awoke the next morning next to the photographer, unsure of what happened to her while she was unconscious, the affidavit said.

Police seized a videotape with the woman's name on it during their search of the photographer's apartment and studio. A few days later, police got a search warrant to view the videotape.

According to the search warrant, the tape depicted the woman losing her coordination and dexterity and appearing unconscious at times. Several times, the photographer stuck his finger in her mouth as if he was rubbing something into her gums or mouth, the warrant said. The tape also showed the photographer kissing her and fondling her breasts and genitalia while the woman was listless and not moving much, the warrant said.

Anyone with information on this or any related incident is asked to contact Investigator Thomas Jordan at the State College police, 234-7150.
