Michael Kiel, an Altoona Campus student who was shot outside a Sheetz convenience store on April 16, remains hospitalized.
Kiel was listed in serious condition yesterday at Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The Altoona community is still pulling for Kiel, as they continue fund-raising efforts to help cover his medical expenses.
Adam Goldfeder, president of the Altoona chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, which Kiel is pledging, said the members have raised about $3,000 for Kiel and his family, and will hold a charity softball game tomorrow.
Fraternity member Dave Hickey said they have written checks to cover some hotel costs for family members staying in Johnstown who have had to miss work.
Students continue to visit Kiel in the hospital. He communicates by pointing to letters on a chart, Goldfeder said, adding that he is optimistic about Kiel's recovery.
"He's got the strong attitude he needs," Goldfeder said.
