After enduring what seemed like an endless winter, the snow has finally melted and the beautiful weather is drawing us out of hibernation. Whether people are passing frisbee, riding bikes or just relaxing in the grass. Everyone has joined in doing the same thing: celebrating the joys of Mother Nature. Mother Nature has provided us with so much wealth, it only seems fair to give her something in return. That one gift we can give is preservation. Today we have in our hands the powers to preserve Mother Nature, something that may not be possible tomorrow. Let us not blindly allow her to slip through our fingers, but let us hold onto her securely, ensuring a future for her as well as ourselves.
Every day should be Earth Day. However, our actions need to support this statement. It can be as easy as opting for exercise instead of mechanical transportation; turning off that light as you leave the room; bringing your own eating utensils instead of relying on plastic paper or styrofoam; not taking that extra napkin at lunch or fixing that dripping faucet.
This week is EARTH WEEK. It is the perfect time to learn how we as individuals can make a difference. Take advantage of this week's daily speakers and events to EXPAND YOUR ENVIRONMENTALITY. Eco-Action challenges each and every one of you to come and learn about your part in the environment.
One of our goals for our EARTH DAY celebration on the HUB lawn (Sunday, April 18) is to minimize the waste generated. So for picnicking purposes we urge you to bring your own mugs and reuseable containers (In case of rain, events will be held inside the HUB). Stop by and check it out!
