Woman, 46, arrested in alleged electronics theft

A woman was arrested Feb. 19 for allegedly stealing merchandise from Gary's Electronics, 1500 N. Atherton St., Patton Township Police said.

Gary Marco, owner of the store, said Pamela Smith, 46, whose last known address is 272 Spring St., was shopping, and employees put the merchandise she was interested in into a bag. Smith took the bag and walked out the door without paying for the items, Marco said.

The store's manager tried to grab the bag from Smith, but she pulled it away, Marco said. Marco followed Smith to her car and tried to ask her if there was a misunderstanding, he said.

"Then she informed me, 'I'm not walking away with the merchandise, I'm driving away with it,' " and drove away, Marco said.

After Marco called 911, Ferguson Township Police and Patton police caught up with Smith in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, 1665 N. Atherton Place, where Smith allegedly kicked an officer in the chest and bit his hand as she was being apprehended, Patton police said.

Smith was arraigned Friday before District Magistrate Robert May.
