Letter to the Editor
False security

I am writing in response to the Associated Press article by Paul Recer "AIDS has little effect; Research: disease hurts 'powerless' " Feb. 5, 1993. I was startled to read that people are still trying to believe that AIDS will not and cannot affect them. AIDS does not choose its victims because of their social class or sexual preference. AIDS organizations have been trying for some time now to educate people that no one is safe from this devastating disease.

This article is the kind of false reasoning that is causing AIDS to spread. It gives people a sense of security and immunity that isn't there. The article states that AIDS will only hurt the lower classes that are "socially invisible." The truth is: If one of the country's so-called "social classes" is devastated it will change every single person's life in this country. Please don't listen to the "facts" in this article you are not safe from this terrible disease, be careful and wear a condom.
