Letter to the Editor
Why not protest?

After reading Thaddeus Will's disapproval concerning protesting, I thought that someone should respond in defense of our Constitution and the democracy in which we live. Will asked, "Why do these people wish to protest?" He must not understand that protests have been a major force in building the country we live in now. Where would we be if it wasn't for such protestors as Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X?

In response to Will's bewilderment of why anybody would want to protest President Bush, I would like to offer a few reasons why someone might. Perhaps your mother or father lost jobs because of our failing economy and are now struggling to make payments on your tuition. You have a good reason to protest President Bush. If you are an enviromentalist or someone who just recycles and is remotely concerned about the state of our planet, you have a good reason to protest President Bush. His record on the environment is about as good as Ronald Reagan's memory. If you happen to be a single mother, or the child of a single mother, you have a good reason to protest President Bush. He and his "little buddy" have branded families who are headed by single mothers as "unfavorable," even though it is far superior to a mother and father combination which (physically or emotionally) abuses their children. You see, George and Dan, it is not the number of parents, it is the amount of love that really counts.

I hope that by writing this letter I have cleared things up for Thaddeus and anybody else who does not understand the democracy we live in.
