Ginger Jiang came to the United States from China four years ago and has studied at the Universty since 1990. But if she does not purchase health insurance --including maternity benefits -- for her husband and 6-year-old son, her own education might be at stake.

Three years ago Stacy Gibbs walked into Jeri Daniels-Elder's office, and told the women's assistant track coach that she wanted to quit throwing the javelin. Gibbs was still feeling the effects of a second shoulder operation, which had put her throwing career in doubt.
