Summer can be beautiful in Happy Valley -- except for those who happen to be job-hunting.

Despite Friday's arrest of an arson suspect, local police do not know if the same man is responsible for the recent string of suspicious fires.

As state aid to universities drops -- about $20 million during the last two years for Penn State -- school officials have been forced to find outside funding.

With the sun glaring off their mortarboards and their diplomas in hand, summer graduates seem to have it all.

Once the dorms are locked in May for the summer, it's not only the end of the school year but the start of summer cleaning, repairing, maintaining and renovating.

State College Borough Council members want to improve town-gown cooperation on growth-management and land-use issues. But they aren't completely satisfied with the plan that's now on the table.

The rebirth of '60s vitality that has brought back avant-garde idealism has also revived the coffee house as a haven of intellectual activity.

Just $2 can't stretch very far nowadays. It can't even buy a movie matinee ticket, a pack of cigarettes or a fashion magazine. But it can buy five days of quality performances at the Central Pensyvlania Festival of the Arts.
