Local business leaders and State College Borough Council members agreed at a work session yesterday to scale back plans for the Downtown Improvement District. It has only been a few weeks since University Athletic Director Jim Tarman joined with executives at Raycom and Blockbuster Video on May 20 to send the l992 Nittany Lions to the Blockbuster Bowl for the second time in three years. Coach Joe Paterno walked out of Pitt Stadium last Thanksgiving to a serenade of boos and jeers for what he said was the last time. Penn State made history on May 20th when the Nittany Lions became the first team ever to accept a postseason bowl bid during baseball season, signing an agreement to play in the Blockbuster Bowl on New Year's Day. It's hard to believe that a wrestling team coached by Rich Lorenzo once pinned itself with an 0-9 record. Has anybody bothered to ask Wayne Huzinega, the owner of Blockbuster Video why he hasn't opened one of his mega-flick stores in State College?
