Don't just stand by

Last Tuesday I had the unfortunate opportunity to see about 200 people standing and watching an accident scene. A woman was hit by a car. She was lying on the street in front of the Allen Room on College Avenue.

There were three adults who were helping the woman. I looked around and saw all of these people watching. There was a big crowd. People filled the sidewalks and were out on the street. Traffic was backed up all the way down College Avenue.

It was surprising that the police and the paramedics could get through this crowd to the victim. The police and paramedics have enough to worry about with the accident victim. Now they had to worry about all the people there getting in the way (crowd control), or even getting hurt, and the traffic.

I think it was ignorant to just stand there and watch this. There were already enough people there helping her. With all of those people just standing there it could have very well hurt the situation. The rescue efforts to this person may have been delayed due to the mass of people around the scene.
