Middies anchor out field as tourney's No. 4 seed

Team: Navy

Nickname: Midshipmen

Coach: Mike Schwob

Record: 11-9

National Rank: 20th

Tournament Seed: 4th

How They got Here: Defeated New York University in the first round and East Stroudsburg in the second round.

Against Penn State in 1992: 0-2

Strengths: "Tough and scrappy" is how Penn State Coach Tom Peterson referred to the Navy's style of play. Rutgers-Newark Coach Bob Bertucci agrees.

"They know that they can't match up man for man, but they just keep playing hard nosed volleyball," Bertucci said. "Then when they get the oppurtunity to surprise you, they come at you real hard."

Weaknesses: The Midshipmen's intense style of play forced a fifth game in their first loss against Penn State, but in key positions they still lack the talent that the other tournament teams have.

Penn State is 20-0 lifetime against Navy.
