Two USG tickets face election code violations

The Undergraduate Student Government election commissioners filed two violations against USG presidential and vice presidential candidates yesterday -- one against Jim Ryerson and running mate Candice Anderson and the other against the Rob Kampia and Beth Schneck ticket.

The Ryerson and Anderson campaign is charged with displaying three unstamped posters in a window of the Student Book Store, 330 E. College Ave., said Stacey Ishman, candidacy and campaigning commissioner, who filed the violations.

All campaign materials --including fliers, buttons and handbills -- must be stamped by the elections commissioners before they can be displayed or distributed, according to the USG elections code.

Ryerson said he and Anderson will plead "no contest" to the violation and accept responsibility.

Kampia was cited for not turning in a financial statement by Friday's 5 p.m. deadline, Ishman said.

Candidates must turn in financial statements at certain points during the campaign detailing the expenses they have incurred throughout the election, according to the USG elections code.

Kampia's campaign manager Kelly Glazier said she was responsible for turning in the statement and forgot to do so on Friday. She turned it in Saturday as soon as she remembered, she added.

USG Elections Prosecutor Joe Atkinson said both the violations would probably only warrant a fine, but both tickets must go before the elections court for a decision.
