Clueless
Ahh . . . another quality Daily Collegian opinion. This time it isn't about Chino Wilson, tuition hikes, or any other hot topic. It was about a topic that I hold in just as high esteem as other people hold these topics, the NCAA tournament and the March Madness that comes with it. Craig, why did you watch it if you are not a basketball fan nor ever will be? I know you gave some lame excuse that the only other alternative was to study, but I don't buy that for a second. You watched it because college basketball is one of the most exciting sports on television. Right after you said you were not a basketball fan you lost all credibility. How can you go on whining and complaining about something you are so obviously clueless about? You admitted outright that the only reason you watched the tourney was to be cool like your friends (a.k.a. peer pressure). Another point of your concern was the quantity of teams in the tournament. You made it clear the 64 teams is too many. Sixty-four is pretty small when you consider how many teams are actually eligible. Hundreds of teams are eligible, and qualified to run with the big dogs in Division I, but those that do not make the cut made by the selection committee for the NCAA tournament, go to the National Invitation Tournament, namely Penn State. This tournament is not to be taken lightly, as shown by Penn State's performance in the first round. Penn State has a quality basketball program with a very qualified coaching staff and talented players, but there are still a lot of good teams in it that couldn't make the cut. Oh, I forgot, you want even less teams in the NCAA tournament. You claim that you do not like upsets in the tournament, like UTEP upsetting Kansas. Upsets are the best form of sports entertainment around, or would you rather have seen Kansas beat UTEP 150-12? That makes for an interesting game to watch, doesn't it? I hope that you didn't lose any money in your betting pool on that game.
