Vote for action
The upcoming Undergraduate Student Government elections give the students at Penn State a chance to voice their opinion on the important issues that face all members of the undergraduate community. Only one ticket addresses these concerns on their platform and offers substantial plans to deal with these problems. It was clear in the three debates that the Ryerson/Anderson ticket has done their homework. In fact, I would say that they are the only ones to have researched the issues and come up with viable programs. This was especially evident in the last debate when Beth Schneck could not answer a question about two bills pending in the Pennsylvania legislature regarding the open budget. This is most disappointing considering that one of the key planks on the Kampia/Schneck platform is the open budget. Schneck had to defer to Kampia who was not able to support his response with any reasons. The Kampia/Schneck ticket has also pledged that only one of their programs will cost any money. If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you! Schaffer/Groton talk about action, but don't offer any specifics. They want to establish a "Grand Council" which would duplicate the efforts of the University Student Advisory Board. Does student government really need another committee or council? I don't think so! This ticket posted a flier at the Student Book Store and pledged to stop rape on campus. I support this pledge, but exactly how are they going to do this? Ryerson asked the other tickets to show him their plans and, in my opinion, they have not even come close to responding to this challenge. Ryerson/Anderson have developed a strong platform that addresses the concerns of all undergraduates at Penn State. They are the only candidates that have produced specific plans to see their platform through to completion. Jim Ryerson and Candice Anderson have shown students their dedication and devotion to improving student life. They offer comprehensive plans in the areas of lobbying for increased state funds, improving the quality of education, improving health services and protecting the rights of students in town. Ryerson and Anderson also offer tangible services for the students such as the short-term loan program. This would make small amounts of money available to students that would help people at the end of the month when money is tight. It is clear that Jim and Candice are the only real choice for USG president and vice president. They offer the students programs that deal with the big issues facing the undergraduate body. They also offer students tangible services. But most importantly, Jim and Candice are the only ticket with real plans. If you want to see real action for the students, vote for unified action; vote for Jim Ryerson and Candice Anderson on April 1.
