They have answers
As a freshman new to Penn State, I, too, was guilty of ignorance. Until a friend pointed it out to me, I didn't even know that Penn State had a student government, let alone its official title and abbreviation. However, with the exposure to issues that directly involve me, namely open budget, tuition increases, library facilities, class sizes, etc., I now feel a responsibility, both to myself and Penn State to vote in the Undergraduate Student Government presidential election on April 1 for the candidate who will best represent me, the average, honest, dedicated, respectable, and imaginative Penn State student. All three tickets for USG president and vice president, Kampia/Schneck, Ryerson/Anderson, and Schaffer/Groton address these issues. However, only Jim Ryerson and Candice Anderson have the honesty, dedication, respectability and imagination needed to achieve our goals, my goals, and those of all Penn State students. Schaffer and Groton's plans to restructure USG only waste valuable time. While Kampia's grade point average of 3.8 and his platform are commendable and his name-recognition flyers are entertaining, his radical reputation, along with his recent mudslinging at Ryerson's integrity, do not give him the respectabilty he needs in high places to accomplish his plans. Only Ryerson and Anderson have researched the issues thoroughly and presented feasible solutions, explained what they will cost, and what they will do for students like me. With organization and dedication like that of Jim Ryerson and Candice Anderson working for and with students at Penn State, student concerns will finally be confronted, and maybe freshmen will know what USG stands for before their second semester.
