Who cares?
I am writing concerning the "hot" news story the Collegian "broke" about Undergraduate Student Government presidential candidate Jim Ryerson's membership in the USG senate. Congratulations, Bob Woodward would be proud! Such a "controversial" issue certainly deserves the two pages of ink that it received in Thursday's paper . . . not! Who cares where this guy lived? The fact that he was willing to volunteer his time to work in the senate when he was asked should be admired. It's like pulling teeth to get good people to work as senators in the first place, so be happy that there are people as motivated as Ryerson. That's one of the reasons why Ryerson is the best choice for USG president on April 1. From the article, it appears that the advisers and leaders of the organizations involved knew that Jim had moved from his apartment to his fraternity house, and they did not think it a bad thing. Who are these unknown people (Hardoby and Powers) that can toss accusations about this and have Collegian reporters actually listen to them? That's like me saying that Bruce Parkhill is shaving points because he's acting "suspicious." They obviously have little knowledge of the issue and decided to take potshots at a quality individual like Ryerson for reasons other than the truth. If you're going to insult someone's integrity, you'd better have more substance than "well, he was acting suspicious." Get real and act mature. Maybe the Collegian could spend its time and money covering real news -- such as how USG presidential hopeful Rob Kampia served prison time on marijuana charges. If you want to dig up illicit behavior, that is a good place to start.
