Hardcore bands to play Red Cross benefit at VFW

The State College Veterans of Foreign Wars post, 139 N. Barnard St., will quake again tomorrow night with another hardcore show.

Beginning at about 7, Starkweather of Philadelphia; Jessica of Allentown; and NoOne's Hero including University students, will play a benefit for the American Red Cross.

NoOne's Hero, featuring vocalist Chris Werner (junior-graphic design) and guitarist Todd Simpson (senior-broadcast cable), is marketing a demo tape entitled . . . dead empty on which they do metallic punk rock in the vein of Black Flag and the Melvins.

Starkweather, a group from Harvest Records which will have a new release out within a month, is "a hardcore band, but they also attract a metal following," according to Simpson.

Simpson added that his own band has performed with Sick of It All, Gorilla Biscuits, Biohazard, and the Exploited among others.

Admission is $4 and open to fans of all ages.

21st annual Film Follies spotlights seniors' work

Seniors in the graphic design department will get a chance to eat their shorts.

Actually, no one will serve refreshments at the 21st annual Film Follies, which take place at 9 tomorrow night in Keller Auditorium, but you can gobble up plenty of interesting animation.

The show will highlight projects produced during the past year, including pieces about drunken driving.
