Letter to the Editor
What about...

This letter is in reference to an editorial by Larry Ott in the Collegian on March 24. Mr. Ott you are indeed a very lucky person. You have obviously had the good fortune of being adopted by a loving family and have apparently matured into a healthy, safe, happy young man. But let's not be misled by this beautiful picture you have presented us with regarding adoption.

When you were adopted you were a healthy, white, male baby. How lucky for you. Let's talk about minority babies, handicapped babies, babies who are already drug addicts when they are born. Who's adopting these babies? Let's talk about unloved and unwanted children who are sexually, physically and mentally abused every day of their lives. Thank goodness their mothers "toughed it out" so they can look forward to "toughing it out" for the rest of their lives.

I am happy that your adoption turned out so well and I am happy for any adoption that turns out well, but please don't get hung up on using adoption as the solution to all unwanted pregnancies. When all children in adoption agencies are wanted and loved and adopted, I'll begin to believe in your solution.
