Occupancy clarified
Matthew Corradino, in his article in The Daily Collegian on Wednesday, March 4, stated the official capacity of the ice pavilion is listed at 1,074 and there were an estimated 1,400 spectators at the Icer game against Michigan-Dearborn. 1,074 is the permanent seating capacity, not the occupancy limit. Attendance is increased when temporary seating is added and standing-room-only tickets are sold. Building occupancy limits should not be confused with seating limitations, as many other factors determine a building occupancy limit. The point is that the ice pavilion and the Hockey Club, with 1,400 people at the Icer game, did not endanger our spectators or staff by violating safety regulations. Patrons using the ice pavilion can be assured that we are committed to providing a safe recreational environment.
