Questionable article

The article entitled "Democrats flag Clinton for victory" is very misleading. The article clearly states that the local Democratic leadership has not yet endorsed a candidate. The article reported that each of the candidates has his own strong qualities, and that the president of College Democrats has invited the candidates to come to Penn State to debate. The article should have been entitled "Local Democratic leadership undecided."

It is much too early to be choosing sides. To date, not one of the Democratic candidates has had more than one strong primary showing, and only a few percent of the nation's voters has even had the opportunity to voice their opinions at the primary polls. With almost two months until the state primary, many Penn State students are only beginning to take an interest in the Democratic Party race and the role of the Collegian and its reporters at this time should be to inform the student body.

And the role of the Collegian is to report how each candidate is proposing to:

-- Turn the nation's economy around.

-- Curb pollution and clean up the "environment."

-- Revitalize inner cities.

-- Provide health care for all.

-- Save America's youth from hunger, abuse, neglect, drugs and crime.

Reporting statements like "Bill Clinton is more electable because he can be trusted," does not inform. Informed students will make up their own minds, and choose their own candidate, and many, like myself, will question statements such as "Clinton can be trusted."
